This course focuses on the fundamentals of wheel throwing for both beginners and experienced potters. Students will develop skills in centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing. We will begin by creating bowls and cups and will progress into small plates and jars, but experienced students will be given more autonomy. This will allow students at all levels to explore new forms and push their skills to the next level. A large component of this course will be discussing the importance of proportion, repetition, line, and positive/negative space.
Students are expected to wear closed-toed shoes, and loose clothing may make it more difficult to work. We are excited to bring people of all ages and skill levels together, and we hope to enhance your skill sets and spread happiness with clay.
The art center will provide all the basic necessities, but serious students are encouraged to buy their own tools to fulfill their specific needs. Glazes will also be provided, but the selection is limited.
